‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ begins with Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) at age eleven.  He is an orphaned boy being raised by his unpleasant aunt and uncle, but one day a half-giant called Rubeus Hagrid informs Harry that he is actually a wizard whose parents were murdered by the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort.  Voldemort also attempted to kill one-year old Harry on the same night, but his killing curse mysteriously rebounded and reduced Voldemort to a weak and helpless form.  Harry is an extremely famous wizard because of his uncanny survival skills and so, with some help from Hagrid, he ventures into the Wizarding World.  There he begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he learns about magic along with new friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson).  During the school year, the three friends get mixed up in the mystery of the Sorcerer’s Stone which is rumored to be hidden at Hogwarts.

In ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ Harry, Ron and Hermione’s second year in school proves to be more trying than the year before.   The Chamber of Secrets has been opened, leaving students and ghosts terrified by an unleashed monster. Harry must defend claims that he is the heir of Salazar Slytherin, dark wizard who founded the chamber.  He also learns that he can speak Parseltongue, the language of the snakes that is often associated with dark magic, and discovers the contents of a mysterious diary only to find himself trapped within the Chamber of Secrets itself.

‘Harry potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ follows Harry and his friends through their third year at Hogwarts.  Professor R. J. Lupin joins the staff as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, while convicted murderer, Sirius Black escapes an Azkaban Prison.  The Ministry of Magic entrusts the Dementors, soulless creatures considered to be among the foulest on earth, of Azkaban to guard Hogwarts from Black.  In the midst of the terror in Hogwarts’ atmosphere, Harry discovers that Black is after him.  Now must figure out a method of defeating him while dodging obstacles along the way.

Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts plays out in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’.  At Hogwarts, headmaster Albus Dumbledore introduces Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.  What he doesn’t know is Barty Crouch Jr., one of the Death Eaters working for Harry’s arch nemesis Voldermort,  has previously subdued Moody and is now using Polyjuice Potion to impersonate him.  Meanwhile, Hogwarts host the annual Triwizard Tournament where three European schools participate, each selecting a “champion” to represent them while competing in dangerous tasks.  The Goblet of Fire chooses Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum and Cedric Diggory to go up against each other.  However, even though he hadn’t entered himself into the contest, Harry’s name was produced from the Goblet making him a fourth champion.  Now Harry will have to battle his way through terrifying encounters in the competition of his life.

In ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ the Ministry of Magic appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dolores Umbridge.  Umbridge is a senior Ministry official who refuses to train her students in practical magic, so a group of the students gather together to try and learn on their own.  Of course, Harry becomes the leader of this group as they secretly meet in a hidden room to prepare themselves for a battle with the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters.  The students know that Lord Voldemort has arrived.  However, the Ministry of Magic is doing every thing they can to keep that secret under wraps.

Harry is in his sixth year at Hogwarts in ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ and Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters are increasing their terror upon the Wizarding and Muggle worlds.  Headmaster Albus Dumbledore persuades his old friend and colleague, Horace Slughorn, to return to Hogwarts as a professor because there is a vacancy to fill.  However, Dumbledore has an ulterior motive for Slughorn’s return.  While in a Potions lesson, Harry takes possession of a strangely annotated school textbook, inscribed ‘This is the property of the Half-Blood Prince’, which contains some astonishing information. Meanwhile, Dumbledore and Harry secretly work together to discover the method on how to destroy Voldemort once and for all.   Amongst the chaos at Hogwarts, romance and hormones lurk within the castle’s walls all year.  Love is in the air, but danger lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same.

The newest installment of the Harry Potter films is ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I’.  After some unexpected events at the end of the previous year, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are entrusted with a quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort’s secret to immortality, the Horcruxes.  It is supposed to be their final year at Hogwarts, but the collapse of the Ministry of Magic and Voldemort’s rise to power prevents them from attending. ‘The Soloist’ is the true life story of Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx), a former cello prodigy whose battle with schizophrenia landed him on the streets after two years of schooling at the world renown institute of the arts, Juilliard.  Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) is a jaded journalist trapped in a dead-end job with a recently failed marriage behind him.  When wandering through Los Angeles’ Skid Row, he notices Ayers masterfully playing a two-stringed violin and after introducing himself to Ayers, his interest is sparked.  Because he is the inquisitive writer that he is, Steve is eager to learn more about the troubled musician.  The two men develop an unlikely friendship and the more Steve discovers about Ayers’ personal and musical past, the more compelled he is to help him get back on his feet and back on the stage.  The bond between the two men enhances both of their live in a way neither of them could anticipate.

In ‘Iron Man’ Downey Jr. plays Toni Stark, a high rolling playboy who happens to be an engineering genius and head of his own weaponry company.  While in Afghanistan demonstrating a new missile, Toni is captured and seriously wounded in the chest.  His captors try and force him to assemble a missile for them.  However, instead of working on their project, he creates a means to prevent his death from the metal shard left in his chest and a super hero-like armored suit, which he used to escape Afghanistan.  When he returns to the United States, he announces that his company will stop making weapons; he wants his only focus to be the suit that he fashioned while held captive.  Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) is Stark’s second in command and doesn’t agree with Toni’s decision.  When Tony discovers that Stane is a money hungry backstabber and not the trusted friend he knew him to be, the two men go head to head in a battle over power.

‘Iron Man 2’ picks up where the first movie left off.  After defeating Stane, Toni decides to reveal that he, indeed, is the hero that everyone is buzzing about.  With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, the billionaire inventor faces pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military.  Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side must forge new alliances and confront powerful enemies.

Robert Downey Jr.’s newest flick is coming to theaters November 5th.  He and costar, Zach Galifianakis are sure not to disappoint in this entertaining feast for a comedy-lover’s appetite, ‘Due Date’.   Peter Highman (Downey Jr.) is an expectant first-time father whose wife is due to give birth in just five days.  Peter originally plans on catching a flight home from Atlanta so he can be there for the birth of his first born, but a chance encounter with an aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) completely throws Peter off schedule. Desperate to reach his wife in time, Peter’s sanity hangs by a thread when he’s forced to take a cross-country road trip with dog-toting odd-ball Ethan.

Michael Cera stars as Nick Twisp in ‘Youth in Revolt’.  Nick is a sixteen-year-old outcast with an appreciation for the finer things in life.  Unfortunately, he’s a part of a family that doesn’t view the world quite the way he does.  He lives with his trailer trash mother (Jean Smart) who uses his child support checks as her meal ticket, and his father (Steve Buscemi) would just as well not have him around.  When Nick’s mother and step-dad, Jerry (Zach Galifianakis) decide to go on a vacation in the woods, Nick is initially unenthusiastic about the trip.  However, while on his way to the camping ground’s community showering facilities, Nick runs into the girl of his dreams.  Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday) is everything Nick could ever want in a woman.  She’s beautiful, smart, and interested in all of the things he likes; for Nick, it was love at first sight.  Now he’s on a mission to do whatever is necessary to make Sheeni his.  Normally, Nick chooses to stay out of trouble, but to get Sheeni he’ll have to conjure up his alter ego, Francois Dillinger, a fowl-mouthed, car-stealing, cigarette-smoking bad boy who’s outrageous plan to sweep Sheeni off of her feet will stop for no one.

The 4th season of the smash hit series ‘Gossip Girl’ premiered on the CW September 13th. The drama-filled show follows Manhattan’s elite as they live their fabulously complicated lives. The second season of the smash hit series, Modern Family, premiered September 22nd on ABC. If you haven’t heard about this program, you’ve clearly been living under a rock. Modern Family follows the daily lives of an extended family, each branch quirky in its own way. Patriarch, Jay Pritchett, is married to a hot, sassy and much younger Columbian woman, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. Together, they raise Gloria’s young but extremely mature son, Manny. The kid is an enigma, possessing all of the passion his mother has as well as the self confidence of a grown man. Jay’s eldest child is his daughter, Claire Dunphy, an overbearing, overprotective worrying mother to three kids. Typical teenager, Haley, is the first born. Her current obsessions are boys, clothes, boys, her friends, boys, her phone, and more boys. The middle child, Alex, is the most clever and intelligent among the three siblings, so it’s not uncommon to find her messing with both older sister and younger brother. Luke is the rambunctious baby boy and he, like most children, is innocent and naïve. Luke often lands himself in trouble but doesn’t always understand the consequences of his actions. At times, it seems like Claire’s husband, Phil, is another one of her children. Phil is a doting husband to his wife and is constantly searching for ways to bond with his kids. One of his techniques is playing the cool dad, so instead of parenting, he uses a term called “peer-enting” where he attempts to relate to his kids like one of their friends would. This almost never works and Phil just ends up not being taken seriously. Clair has a younger brother, Mitchell, an uptight worry-wart who is in a civil union with his partner of five years, Cameron. The two are polar opposites as Mitchell is mild mannered and Cam is always loud and over the top. The two men adopted an adorable baby girl from China names Lilly, and together, are raising her as their own. ‘Modern Family’ is a hilariously refreshing look at the everyday lives of the reinvented classic American family. Outgunned and ill-equipped, they must now battle an unforgiving wilderness as well as their German enemies in order to smuggle the critical intelligence knowledge back to allied territory.  However the constant threat of capture and a mounting suspicion of a German sympathizer within the group, threatens to tear them apart. Now with few weapons, no food and a strained camaraderie, this group of men must take on the frigid winter and travel through a forest filled with enemy troops, to fight their way back to safety.

KOAN also features films like The Long Road Home, a touching story about a 12 year old boy named Seth, who has to live on his grandpa Murdock’s farm after his mother passes away.  Murdock wasn’t too keen on the idea of Seth coming to stay with him in the first place and constantly stays on his back.  He also did not condone the mixed marriage between his daughter and her Indian husband, so when Seth tries to share stories about his war hero father who died in Vietnam, Murdock shuts him out.  Seth’s grandmother, on the other hand, adores her grandson, but when she too, passes away, he and his granddad are left to take care of each other.

The Fallen is another KOAN classic.  This gritty World War II drama is a three sided story about German, Italian and American soldiers weeks before the end of the war.  The American’s are assigned to deliver ammunition on the front line but with a treacherous journey ahead of them and devastating setbacks along the way, their mission becomes seemingly impossible.  Meanwhile a German unit and their Italian allies struggle to keep up discipline and morale in the face of defeat.  The every day lives of these soldiers are captured in this film revealing the men behind the war.

Wolf Mountain tells the story of three children who have been kidnapped by convicts and are then released into the forest.  Desperate to escape the criminals before their return, the children find a friend in an Indian spirit, disguised in the form of a wolf.  With his help, the children are able to begin their journey to safety.

For the young and young at heart, KOAN features Bug Off.  Krista and her little brother, Tyler don’t get along at all.  Tyler is continuously pulling pranks on his sister and getting her into trouble.  When Krista feels she can stand Tyler’s antics no longer, she secretly wishes her little brother would turn into a bug, so when their alien babysitter, Mrs. Pickle Nickle, hears Krista’s request, she makes her wish a reality.  Now Krista is the only one who can change Tyler back before their parents find out.

KOAN’s Second Chances is an uplifting story about overcoming obstacles.  After a car accident that takes the life of her father and seriously injures her leg, Sunny gets lost in an unshakable state of depression.  In order to gain a fresh start, Sunny moves, along with her mother, next to a horse ranch.   After meeting an angry, crippled horse named Ginger Sunny is inspired to change her attitude about her own situation and regain her health and peace of mind.
